Vejle Reads - start up May 1st

Join Vejle Reads – a community for literature lovers!

Would you like to connect with others through literature? Vejle Reads is a new international reading community hosted by Vejle Library. Whether you’re Danish or international, a lifelong reader or just curious, you're warmly invited to explore literature in English together with others.

As a member of the community, you’re invited to join a wide range of inspiring events where reading and conversation go hand in hand – from shared reading sessions to author talks, Literary walking tours, and networking events.

We will start up with two events in May:

International author talks: Meet acclaimed writers from around the world for in-depth conversations about their work, inspirations, and perspectives on the world today. These talks are in English and offer a unique chance to connect with the voices behind the books. May 1st, 7-9pm: Meet acclaimed Ukrainian writer Andrej Kurkov.

Shared Reading: Experience stories aloud – together. Led by a trained facilitator, these sessions offer a welcoming space to listen, reflect, and share thoughts as short texts are read aloud. No preparation needed, just show up and enjoy the moment. May 26th, 4–5pmNo registration needed – just show up.

Sunday Open at Spinderihallerne

On Sunday, May 4th, Spinderihallerne opens its doors with a special focus on art and the artists in the house.

You can experience two current exhibitions, you can also participate in workshops where you’ll learn to make collages, grow your own mushrooms (!), and cut your own passepartouts.

To mark the occasion, we’ve invited the Vin & Vinyl community from Spinderihallerne to spin David Bowie records as background music for the Wrestling exhibition, where Bowie plays a central role.

This day is for all art and culture enthusiasts. And if you’re an artist curious about what Spinderihallerne offers and works with in the art field, this is a perfect opportunity to stop by, have a chat with the house's artists, and meet the art professionals behind the scenes. (sign up required for workshops).

Vejle Spring Reception - May 13th

For this year's Spring Reception, we have invited Anatolie Cantir to give a talk titled Danish Culture is an ‘Extreme’, based on his book of the same name.

Danish Culture is an ‘Extreme’ is a two-hour lecture, which paints a certain picture of the Danish mentality and its implicit expectations.

The lecture draws from existing sociocultural, anthropological, and historical work on Danes and Denmark.

It is a humorous, serious, and provocative lecture that battles through decoding known Danish values by finding out how they play out in real life - and, not least, what they could mean to international employees and… Danes.

Participation is free of charge, but you have to sign up (so we know how much food to prepare).
